Comics

As of August 2015, we've stopped offering the Comics software for IntelliScanner. But if you use the Comics software, it'll continue to function for you on your computer. It is, however, completely unsupported.

I lost my activation code and need a new one.

Here's an activation code for Comics: CMIC-00354096-651C67

I use this software. What's this mean for me?

The software will continue to function as-is. The companion online data source is no longer updated with new comics, however, and won't be available after December 31st, 2018. Your local software will continue to work, and your comic data will not be affected.

Can I continue to use Comics after December 31, 2018?

Sure. All of your comic data will still be in your software. After this time period though, Comics will no longer be able to lookup and autofill information on comics - you can always manually enter your comics.

Will Comics run on macOS 10.15 (Catalina)?

No, Comics is a 32-bit app and will not run on macOS 10.15 (Catalina).

Do you offer an alternative?

We no longer offer a comic organization solution. Sorry about that.

General software FAQs

How do I add comic books to Comics?

As comics will generally use the same barcode for a series (or a number of issues) or lack a barcode altogether, comics are added to Comics differently than media items in Media.

When adding comics to Comics, you add series by looking up the series name or a keyword. Once a series has been added, you enter the issue numbers to automatically download information on those comics. Issues can be specified with ranges, thus "1-4, 7" will add issues 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7. Click the Add button to automatically add the issues to the series.

Comics uses barcodes to look up records, edit record locations, and perform an inventory on records. Issues to be tracked with barcodes must have unique barcode values associated with them. Some comics already have retail barcodes, which may be used if they are unique for each issue -- comics will often use the same barcode for an entire series. Comic books without unique barcodes can be affixed with new, unique barcodes by printing them with Comic's Comic Tags feature.

How do I use Comic Tags?

Comic tags are sheets of letter size paper that are printed with comic book issue information and unique barcodes. These sheets can be folded in half and inserted inside comic book bags. Click the Comic Tags toolbar button to begin. Use the menus to specify which issues should be assigned new barcodes; this can be as specific as the selected issue or as broad as all issues. Confirm the changes and click the Print button. To reprint comic tags without assigning new barcode values, choose the "Do not assign new barcodes" option.

If my comic has a unique barcode number, can I use this number in Comics?

Some comic books already have unique barcode values. Use the Associate Barcodes feature to associate these barcodes with their corresponding issue records by simply scanning them. To begin, click the Associate Barcodes toolbar button. Choose which records to change, click Scan Next Comic Book, and begin scanning the barcodes on the issues in the order in which they appear.
