Does Inventory auto-fill information on items I scan?

Inventory works a little differently than some of our other applications, such as Media. When you scan a barcode on a media item to add it to Media, Media accesses the Internet to look up information on the media item based on the UPC/ISBN number.

There isn't a global database for everything in the world so Inventory isn't able to look up information based on the UPC code. If an item has a UPC code, you can use it as a unique identifier in Inventory, but the information on that item will need to be typed in initially.
